I've heard they are nutritious, but even the most ardent aficionado wasn't able to convince me to take a bite. Fortunately, the bug eating thing is limited to only a few regions of Thailand. You do find them in Bangkok, however.

Sonrisa: is that house your place?

I wish it was. Such a property is probably 0.5 - 1 million USD worth these days. It's completely built from golden teak. The building belongs to a retreat centre in Bangkok.

Thomas, I'm curious about something. I know you didn't really want to go to Thailand when you did, but before going there, were you interested in Oriental culture, architecture, religion, etc., as much as you are now?

I was always interested in architecture to the degree that I often found it difficult to contain my enthusiasm when I encountered an interesting building. What concerns Asian culture, prior to my arrival in Thailand I had done some reading in Eastern philosophy, mainly Chinese philosophy. My knowledge of Buddhism was very rudimentary. Does that answer your question?
