Hey ya'll. I've got a painting that I'd like some opinions on. Any opinion at all...philosophical, religious, flattering, slanderous - I'm curious to know what people think about my art work. It's a total of 8' by 4' in two panels in oil paint; entitled: The Ratio of Crossed Fingers to Folded Hands.
Thanks.

When I first looked at this, I said to myself “Wow! That is really good.” Then I realized I was looking at a photograph of a painting, which includes the foreground and the background. It is mainly the background, with the two different color lamps, and the foreground of the wooden floor, which was catching my attention. If I crop the background and foreground out, the painting by itself does not do a lot for me, unfortunately. Maybe you can repaint the entire scene as it appears in the photo, or just use the photo and enlarge it to the size of the painting? What I am saying is that by some good fortune, your painting has found itself in a very favorable setting, and I recommend taking advantage of that.

schrodinger raises a good point about the image that you posted: In your photograph the painting became part of a larger image which advertently or inadvertently enhanced its appeal. Were you aware of this when you posted the photo on the web?
How, or of what, is the title of the painting, The Ratio of Crossed Fingers to Folded Hands, intended to inform the viewer?
I am not quite sure whether I like it or not. Could you say something about the object on the left side of the canvas, it appears to be a receptacle (it has an open top) but then turns into breasts and a face. Does the chair, the sculpture (?), and the stand on the right side relate in some way to the figure on the left side? What of the background?
In my theory of art the intentions of the artist count. So, what was your intent?

That is some interesting work. The subjects in front are sharp and contrasted against the skewed perspective of the partitions behind them making them look as though they are projected out into the room. Id love to have this painting for myself.
What else do you have that I can see?
