@Danaid,
You cannot post, because your account is not validated. Your registration must be validated by email. If you don't submit a valid email address, the registration process fails.

Are you logged in? Got any specific message?

I have the same problem in all of the other forum areas except this one. I get the standard message offering possible reasons for not being given access, but I am a registered member, I am logged in, and there are no error messages.
:huh:

The only clue as to what is going on is this: at the bottom of the page, in a box, I see this message

Is your registered email address valid?
The system shows that you have not confirmed your registration by email, hence, you are still in the "members awaiting validation group" and cannot post to any forum.
I have approved your account manually, so it should work now anyway.

psyche: more than once i have logged in prepared a reply and went to post it only to be prompted to log in again
The new forum software has a session timeout (I forget the exact value, but I think it's 15 minutes), so if you edit a post longer than that, the system will ask for your credentials. The session timeout is an added security measure to make certain hacking techniques more difficult. Nevertheless, even after re-logging in to the forum software, the message text should be preserved. If you work at home, you can ask your browser to remember the password.
psyche: a number of times i have lost posts that way
I have worked with this software for 6 weeks and I have never lost a single message. Perhaps it depends on the browser. I am using Firefox 2.
As a safety measure, you might want to copy your message text to the clipboard (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C) before clicking "submit", so even if the browser or the server fails, you can easily restore it.
psyche: also now that we have vbulletin sometimes i have prepared a post and when i submit reply i get a 'website is too busy' and when i hit the back button the post has disappeared
The forum software appears to lose the database connection occasionally. I have logged this over the past few weeks and it occurs 3-4 times daily on average. I am not sure if it causes this error, but considering that the forum software processes about 20,000 queries per day that is not too bad.
Zero percent failure would of course be better. In order to achieve that I would have to tune the internal settings of the database server. Unfortunately, since we are using a shared database server, the ISP won't let me. If these errors happen too often, please let me know. I can to talk to the ISP's tech team, but I suppose this will be a hard one.

I have increased the session timeout value to 30 min. Hopefully this helps. Another thing that could cause this is that your Internet access provider uses pooled IPs and that your IP address changes between successive page loads.
Please let me know if the problem persists.
Cheers, Thomas
