I spent about 45 minutes carefully composing a Private Message and when I went to send it I got an error message, something like that page is not available. Then I hit the back button on MSIE and totally lost everything I was typing.

That is probably very annoying, but unfortunately it is nothing unusual with web forms. The HTTP protocol is fairly simple, stateless, and not capable of salvaging information from error conditions. Browsers are not always reliable either. This is not a specific problem of thebigview.com, but a general problem on the web.
Typing a lengthy messages into an editor or word processor provides additional safety and convenience. As a minimal safeguard you might want to copy the content of the text buffer to the clipboard (using ALT-A,CTRL-C) before you send it off.

Good advice, I need to get in the habit of copying to the clipboard. Thanks.

I've had this happen with posts I've typed. But I am always able to recover the message when I hit Back.

I did discover that too, so long as I do it quickly. But I can tell you my right mouse button and the Ctrl+C are practically automatic for me now. Plus I can paste everything in to Microsoft Word for a spell check. What, you thought my spelling was naturally that good? Oh no no no. The calcification of the brain is well underway over here in namsto's brain case. The chemical exposure at work doesn't help matters. I'm kiddin' around, hopefully I'll be able to stay lucid for the duration. At least as lucid as it gets between my ears at any given point. I really enjoy making fun of myself. I wonder if there's a medical term for that. See, I just did it again. Really strange, isn't it.
