What is good and what is evil? Who are us to say?

Some people think that gay people are evil and that they deserve to be killed. Others think that black people are evil, and they go shopping at the K-K-K Mart. :D Others think that Christians are evil and tries to blow them up in the name of what they call "good".

Regardless of the situation, it seems that it's always the ones who claim to be "good" fighting against "evil" that are actually evil! <_<

And so goes the saying "do not repay evil with evil", because then you are not being "good" either. But again, who is to say what is "good" and what is "evil"? They are very relative concepts, so how can we even know what they mean?

Should we use those terms at all? Imho... we shouldn't... :nono:

As I said in my last post, the common conception of good and evil is mostly based on fear, such as, the fear of death causes people to call death, especially murder, evil; people fear rape, and thus they call it evil. But, the things such as calling gays evil and Christians evil is simply one using old concepts to gain power and to control.

Our own personal definitions of good and evil are based on our own feelings, and so are ultimately irrefutable. What we can do, however, is to take into account all of the potential consequences of an ethical theory; objective debate over how 'right' a moral philosophy is is possible in this sense.
Others think that Christians are evil and tries to blow them up in the name of what they call "good".
Who does that?

Socrates, who said that good is knowledge and evil is ignorance, gave us the philosophical viewpoint on this.
Religions have of course given us their particular interpretations of good and evil, based in part on their specific beliefs.
To my knowledge, science does not intrude on this territory, and has no viewpoint.
Probably the best source for a definition of good or evil comes from art.
I have found some of the best descriptions in poetry.
Here is just one example, and my favorite:

“What is good?”
I asked in musing mood.
Order, said the law court;
Knowledge, said the school;
Truth, said the wise man;
Pleasure, said the fool;
Love, said the maiden;
Beauty, said the page;
Freedom, said the dreamer;
Home, said the sage;
Fame, said the soldier;
Equity, the seer;
Spoke my heart full sadly:
“The answer is not here.”
Then within my bosom
Softly this I heard:
“Each heart holds the secret;
Kindness is the word.”

I love dualism :D

And so goes the saying "do not repay evil with evil", because then you are not being "good" either

Well that's pretty nice.

Also a nice poem, i loved it. Good is what you think is good. Everyone's personally good.

Oh, I see. I'd never thought of it as Muslims killing Christians; more like Muslims killing symbols of the Great Satan of the West, one of the most major of which, to them, is atheism.
