Slowly but surely, from babyhood on, we put on our translations of reality. Underwear first, then socks, then pants, then shirt and before you know it, by the time we are a 'mature' adult, we are sporting the whole kittencaboodle, including mitts, hats, boats and a winter coat! And so much to talk about - Calvin's vs. Joe's, Levi's vs. GWG's, Armani's vs. Moore's, fur vs. cloth, wireless vs wired, designed vs. plain - we get so entranced by our self-of-clothes, that we forget that they are not real, but manufactured in the factory of make-believe! Now, make believe fits fine when we are children, but the older we get, the tighter and hotter and itchier our make believe self gets ...

At some point, the urge to get naked happens ...

We turn positively blue at first ... BRRRRRRR!!! ...

Quick, get everything back on!

Then, when the itchies and hot sweats start again, its back to gettin' naked ...

Shivers this time ... brrrrrrrr ...

Slowly we slide back into our socks, our underwear, our pants and shirt ...

Itchy time again ... naked time again ...

Goosebumps this time ... barely a brr ...

We'll try it in our socks and our underwear only, see how it goes ...

Hey, its almost warm! ...

The goosebumps begin to disappear ...

Off come the socks and underwear ...

Luckily I live in Thailand. Here I can do with 3 pieces of garment most of the time (total cost $10-$70 USD per set).

Our existential 'clothing' defines us, and we cannot do without it. The important thing is to chose values that do not contradict the reality, and that will bring us the greatest happiness.

I don't understand the title of this topic. "Getting to know buck?"

This topic's a metaphor, right?

I think that our friend here is saying that why we need clothes? <_<

We wear them because we were cold perhaps? So there's really no big deal not actually wearing them?

I think Kether's on the right track. It's a metaphor for all the baggage & preconceived notions we manage to accumulate as we go thru life. At least that's how I'm reading it.

Of course bito meant it as a metaphor.

It's an excellent metaphor, because clothes do exactly that the body which a "personality" does to the mind.

Clothes protect and provide warmth.

But they also conceal, lie, exaggerate, boast, and denounce (...which is why most spiritual traditions prescribe simple uniforms).

Personality does exactly the same to the mind. It is partly protection, partly beautification, and partly a lie.
