Hello again!
As movies and cinema has became part of my life, I´ve realized that I´ve learnedd much from them also, and I don´t see innapropiatte in a philosophy forum like this to point out some of my favourites, for many ar rich in content and deeply human.
Whic ones are your favourites?
I´ll try to put the links to the video clips whenever I can
I´ll star with:

I like Star Wars the best, all 6 of them, and then probably The Lord of the Rings. I know, they're not classic, but both do contain rather human qualities. :)

what about the final scene of Anastasia, where their having a come out party in Anastasia's honor & Anastasia has run off with Yul Brynner & the crown jewels. This puts everbody in a tizzy, but Helen Hayes insists upon going downstairs & greeting the party guests. Somebody asks her what she's gonna tell the guests & she sez, "I'll simply tell them the play is over. Go home."
I luvved that scene! :)

I love both of those two my friend, especially in the former, when Marcellus Wallace is walking across the street and sees Butch in his car, and says "Mother ****er".  One of the funniest scenes ever in my opinion. :D

then there's the 1st scene of To Wong Foo, Thanx For Everything Julie Newmar where Swayze comes out of a shower & walks over to a vanity, & turns himself into Vida Boheme. The way the director showed him doing it, step by step, was pretty cool.
John Leguizamo was a total hoot thruout that entire movie.
Oh, & let's not forget that scene in Braveheart where Mel, et al, show us what Scotsmen wear under their kilts!! :P

Hello!
When I was in college I used to watch many many movies (more than 200/year), and I wrote every single title down. By the time I got tired I had 1300 or so.
Then I decided to check the list to see which ones were he real good ones, or else the ones I had really really enjoy, and out of 1300 I just pointed out 71. ¡But what 71 selection!
Here are some:
- Things I never told you (Isabel Coixet)
- Shine (Scott Hicks)
- El gran dictador (Charles Chaplin)
- Luces de la ciudad (Charles Chaplin)
- Barbarroja (Akira Kurosawa)
- Amadeus (Milos Forman)
- 2001: odisea en el espacio (Stanley Kubrick)
- Manhattan (Woody Allen)
- Cadena Perpetua (Frank Darabont)
- Bailando con lobos (Kevin Costner)
- Fantasía 2000
- Pi (Darren Aronofsky)
- Zorba el griego (Michael Cacoyannis)

Yes, the Triplets of Belleville was really excellent, and so simple too. My teachers loved it too. :)

oh gawd!! how could I forget Fantasia :knockout: I LUVVED that flick, both the original & 2000. Another good animated flick is Fantastic Planet.
2001, yeah that was good. So was Manhattan- any Woody Allen flick is good. My fave was the one where he gets stuck in the future, but I can't remember it's name. The Nixon jokes, the electronic confessional, starting up the VW after some 200 yrs, cloning the nose- all good scenes.
I liked El Gran Dictador (The Great Dictator Smurfie) but I never could understand- Chaplin knew what Hitler was up to, why didn't the rest of the world back then. Also, from that era- any Groucho movie. Some were great, but all were good! :)
Rounding out my faves- The Wizard of Oz, the X-Files movie, any Trek flick, & for sheer outrageousness- Rocky Horror :star:
oh yes, that Holiday institution A Christmas Story. A must see from Xmas Eve to Xmas Day every year.
ps to Smurf:
Luces de la cuidad City Lights
Barbarroja Barbarossa
Bailando con lobos Dancing With Wolves
Zorba el griego Zorba the Greek
¿les conoces ahora? :)

I wasn't too fond of Fantasia myself, which I saw 2000 at the Imax theater. But, that's also probably because I was with my art class on a field trip, and I hated everyone in the class. :D
