would you rather rule in hell or serve in heaven?

It is a great question. The only trouble is that since we do not know ourselves, heaven, or hell, it is hard to decide on anything more than our imagination. On that basis I would say serve in heaven since I'd hate to rule in all that heat.

we each make our own hells
or purgatories if you don't like the idea of making your very own personal hell :)

I'm very glad that there is no heaven or hell,...but if it was true, I'd have to choose hell. God is so unpredicable,...I'd be forever afraid and under the threat of terror (if the Bible is any indication of god's personality), if I wasn't serving the way he desire at that moment. Hell would seem to be much easier.

Rule in hell, of course.
First thing I'd do is to call a board meeting and fire the previous management. Satan gets a nice fat pension as well as Azrael, Beelzebub and their overseas chiefs of staff, Yama, Kali Yuga, Mara and everyone else. Bye bye, sweethearts.
Second, I would install air conditioning.
Third, I would privatize Hell, set up an IPO and issue shares to the world's stock markets.
Fourth, using the fresh equity capital from the Hell Inc., I would restructure the place. Hell needs a cleaner work environment, regular 8-hour days, social benefits, and a new mission statement. In addition to the core business -suffering- I would open up new markets in repenting and education.
Fifth, I would cancel the "eternity" clause in the contract with Christianity. The Hell facilities are too overcrowded already. Like members of other faiths, Christian sinners are sent back after some time. If they want to come again they need to pay. This way, Hell Inc. can generate repeat business from Christians.
Sixth, I would encourage tourism to hell. There are many people who want to get a taste of it before they die. I would offer a special 7-days B&B (bed & boiling oil) package.
Seventh, I would hire a PR company to rethink the public image of hell.
And this, my friends, is merely the beginning...
Cheers, Thomas

I would rather serve in heaven than be a big shot in hell. :devilish:
If I was aware that anyone would have to spend an eternity in hell, for making lots of mistakes or errors during this lifetime, I would think, they still would deserve other chances for redemption.
A mind boggling topic anyway.

what about hitler? does he deserve redemption? what about people who cause pain and suffering just because they like it?
have you ever watched cows being killed at the slaughter house? hell on earth it is. where is their redemption? they didn't even do anything wrong. but they sure do damn suffer. what about pigs who spend their entire lives in 4x4 concrete pens their entire lives before they are slaughtered? they look through the bars, rocking back in forth in misery and insanity. their entire lives. do you know how smart pigs are? brillant.
hell is already all around us.
only thing left to do is decide who is going to be the more powerful devil.
let the lesser devils pay for the pain they inflict.

I (recently) was involved in a large discussion about heaven and hell, and the afterlife. In this sort of discussion the topic of death arises quite naturally.
A point I made, was: " Why is death so feared? " Various scattered monosyllablic responses, but one had a bit of merit; 'Because we don't know what happens afterwards or where we go'
My reply was: " and where were you in the infinite span of time before you were born? "
My conclusion is that, those who fear death, and the various imagined mythological punishments/rewards that come after, are ... functionally insane. Fearing death makes as much sense as fearing birth. and that's just plain silly.
And both are merely grand natural transformations.
Which got me thinking... the majority of this world... North America at least/especially... is functionally insane. That explains quite about about the state of things.
I think i might of said this before... oh well.
Know what I like? Golden Lion Tamarins. they're so damn cute.
Hitler? What about him? He raised a yardstick. That the rest of us may measure ourselves from him. He is not so much at fault for what he did, as those who let him do it are. Those who let him get away with it for so long before doing anything about it.
Hitler and Mother Theresa sharing a cup of tea while watching a sunset... :D
I don't blame Bush for anything. I blame the morons who made him/voted for him.
Heaven and Hell, just an old trick, to keep the peons in line. Imagined FEAR.

As the incumbent director of hell I am glad to report that we are working with Hitler and that there is some progress. At least he stopped beating his German Shepherd. Our staff has now switched from the conventional boiling oil therapy to a balanced diet of razor blades and sulphuric acid which we hope will cure the shouting problem. I must admit, though, that he is one of our more challenging patients. He has another fifty thousand years of hell in front of him, after which he will be admitted to earth in one hundred consecutive cockroach incarnations.
Sincerely,
Chief Officer of Operations

Dear Chief Officer of Operations
It seems as though you will be given a temporary leave of absence now that Hell has been proven through scientific examination to be temporarily out of commission.
You shouldn't have trouble finding work on earth though in the meantime. Politics is clamoring for those with your experience.
The following is supposedly an actual question given on a University of
Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so
"profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet.
Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic
(absorbs heat)? Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using
Boyle's Law, gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed)
or some variant.
One student wrote the following:
First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing over time. So we
need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate
at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a
soul gets to Hell, it will not leave.
Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering
Hell, let's look at the different Religions that exist in the world
today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of
their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of
these religions and since people do not belong to more than one
religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell.
With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of
souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of
change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order
for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of
Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.
This gives two possibilities:
1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls
enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase
until all Hell breaks loose.
2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in
Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes
over. So which is it?
If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year
that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and take
into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2
must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already
frozen over.
The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it is
not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct...leaving only
Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains
why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."
THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY "A"

jesu--I don't blame Bush for anything.
-- I do. The irresponsible fiscal policies of this regime has screwed up the economy & caused over 2,000,000 jobs to disappear- & they want to blame it on Bill Clinton. Or Social Security- their so-called reform will probably cause the country to go bankrupt. They claim that so-called "frivolous" lawsuits are messing up the healthcare system (actually its those stupid HMO's & their frivolous rules & regs) & want to pass laws to keep victims of malpractice from being able to sue. They make up lies about WMD's in Iraq so they can make more WMD's of their own, invade a sovereign nation to hog its oil, murder over 100,000 people so far, turn their cities & homes into rubble,- & blame it on Saddam Hussein. They sign off on torture- but only the lowly grunts who actually do the dirty deeds get slapped on the wrist, all the higher ups get off scot free to torture again. They trash & gut the 1st, 4th, & 6th Amendments,- & blame it on whatever (what day is it?) A real President, Harry Truman, said "the buck stops here". These a-holes just wanna pass it around. They are disgusting- & totally to blame
jesu-I blame the morons who made him/voted for him.
-- I hope you also blame the bastards who fixed the election results, threw voter registration forms & then ballots away, turned folx away from the polls for bogus reasons.... just so they could throw the election to that monkey turd
also the corrupt media that dumbed down those people into morons
Heaven and Hell, just an old trick, to keep the peons in line. Imagined FEAR

seriously, your comment reminds me of an op-ed piece a fromer Governor of Minnesota (no, not Jesse the Body, this was another former governor) wrote before the so-called election telling people why they shouldn't vote for dubya. He outlined the fiascos of this regime & had written a very credible piece until he got to the part about Cheney being an evil man & running the country & that dubya is just a puppet, etc.... Whether that's true or not, it's still dubya's regime. He can overrule Cheney, Rummy, & the other architects of these fiascos, especially Iraq. But other than some low level fall guys, have any heads rolled? Tenet is (so far) probably the highest level official to go, mainly becuz the CIA wasn't telling this regime what it wanted to hear. Some low level grunts are being blamed for the Abu Gharib tortures. What about the higher ups, including Rummy, who signed off on it? dubya can do something about these people, instead he's too busy trying to pass the blame along somewhere else. So yeah, I blame dubya for his messses. The buck stops with him.
