View Full Version : Personal Motto

Does anyone have a personal motto, or creed, or sentence or two that they use or think of throughout the day? What I mean is, what would you say is a crystallization of your beliefs or outlook on life? Not a real good example, but something similar to "stop and smell the roses" but with a little more depth. I am a newbie trying to dip my toe in the pool here. Thank you for any replies.

I've said it before, in another thread but i'll repeat:
Be here Now.
and also:
Live to Love, and give good tongue.
or...
No worries.

I use the word creation in my head alot. But I say beautiful out loud. Everything I see, I remind myself that it was created, then I say "beautiful". Created by God or gods...

I used to relate life to chances and choices respectively but as I continue to walk the path of life, it could be both... now what I believe in and what is my guiding motto.. well, its this:
"LIFE IS TAKING CHANCES OUT OF THE CHOICES WE MAKE."

As far as I understand you, Asheera, and that's no trivial supposition, the idea of 'marry' can happen. It just happened right now, as a matter of fact, while responding to your post.
But let's say that the idea of 'marry' cannot happen. So what? That wasn't the topic, now was it? The topic was that she should marry, not that she should have the idea 'marry'. I can poo without the idea of poo, no? If not, then you had better change your mind about any relation between the idea-poo and poo itself, or you'll be in for a big surprise if you come to my house on enchilada nights.

I like to think about bumper stickers, ie:
Religious Tolerance;
Yeah Right!
Freedom From Religion, Now!
Jesus died in 28 CE
Get Over It!
Know God, no Peace; Gnow Peace, no God.
Keep Religion and America Separate
If Religion cannot stay out of Politics, Tax It!
Religion is Wrong, Never Right
Religion Requires Faith
America, One Nation, Easily Divisible - Just Add Religion
All Gods Fail
Just Say Gnosis
Make Religion NC-17
(no children under 17)
Tax All Property Equally
Stop Subsidizing Religion
faith is a daily struggle
Real Love is Effortless
Following Spirit is Effortless
Is the Bible without error?

Tood, democracy is an ideology. How did the ideology kill Socrates?
Should we define the ideology before going any further?
What does rule by reason mean to you?
How about an explanation of how these people came to the idea that, reason, is the controlling force of the universe, made manifest in speech?
How is this ideology different from religion and rule by a God? CS

In Plato's (Socrates) age, Greece (Athens) was ruled by democracy.
So, why did Plato invented Utopia? To waste his time? I doubt it.

Democracy has not been defined. It is an ideology and can not kill or rule. Christianity is a religious belief system, and it can not kill or rule. People who live within organizing systems and belief systems kill and rule. If you are serious, it is necessary to define the social organization and principals of democracy, and then question the death of Socrates. I think this would be very meaningful.
Civilizations evolve and Athens was where the US is today, when Socrates was order to drink the hemlock, and for the same reasons, rightest Christians are trying to rule over everyone. I think those who argue against democracy, do not have a good understanding of it, and are part of the problem that threatens our liberty today.

Democracy=demos+cratos which means people+power. When you say democracy cannot kill, do you really believe it?
It is absolutely false that the opinion of the many is in any way better than that of the few, and we all know it.
Majority is not a valid argument.
I do not say that generally democracy is better or worse than other ideologies and social systems.
I just now that it leads to the reign of mediocrity.
