Since every thing we have grown up with has or is changing.
Have we considered the label we have added to the year we live in. In most of the world we live in an AD world. Anno Domini, In The Year Of Our Lord. Not all recognize Jesus as Lord. The Israelite's Calendar have a different year as a beginning. So have the Hindus, I think Mohammud, the Chinese, etc.
To keep the same year for everyone, and make everone unhappy, why not start with a minimum age of the Earth, let us say, 100 Billion Years Old, EST, and start using
100,100,000,000 EST. Todays date would be,
Jun 27,100,100,000,000 EST.
BTW, EST= estimate.
P.S the year 1AD, would now be,
100,100,000,000EST
minus 1,999AD
equals
-------------------------
100,100,098,001 EST

Or,
We could estimate an end date for the Earth, and work to that...
For example, let's say the world has two billion years to go.
So, the date would be -2,000,000,000 YTTE (years to the end!!!)
:D

Nice game of countdown. Then each year we would be a year younger.
Of course, we would still have to use EST, (estimate) for nobody knows exactly when the world will end.

If the Earth is 4.6 billion years old., and to arrive at the estimated years of the Earth, todays date should be, Aug 2nd, 4,600,000,000; est.
If you would like to use as a base, Jan 1st, 2000AD, then, today's date would be 4,600,000,003, est. or, Aug 2nd,~ 4,600,000,003.
Of course, the year is based on the extensive research provided from sonrisa's calculations. :D  ;)

P'raps we could use some other important date for the start of Time.
I propose (and doubt I'm the first) the start from the date of the first Internet connection, "Labor day weekend, 1969" (which makes me older than Time  )
