I did not want to post this in Philosophy Forum, but rather in INTERNAL AFFAIRS. Was sort of prompted to change password and name, and sort of forced to post it here. Will try later, but to give you an idea, others may be having troubles too. Will stick with it. Very many excellent features here. Once bugs eliminated, you will have best websforum on internet.

Thank You, Thomas. :D <_<

Hi Richie,

Thanks for your comment and welcome as the first subscriber of the new board. The "Internal Affairs" forum is replaced by the "Help Desk" and "News, FAQs, and Announcements" forums. As you see, I have moved your post to the Help Desk.

You can keep your old name. The database is empty right now, so whoever comes first wins. However, once you have subscribed you cannot change your account name (you can change everything else though). The system allows only one account per email address. This means that you are now "rich" instead of "Richie". Or perhaps both :P

If you prefer the account name "Richie", I will have to delete the "rich" account before you can resubscribe with the same email address.

Cheers, Thomas

DearThomas,

Finally am receiving posts subscribed to in regular E-Ml. Never received anything on preceding version of Bul. Bd. though I did on original version.

Why doesn't FONT SIZE COLOR Tags function as they should?

Maybe you are aware of this already, or maybe it has been corrected already.

You can leave name as Rich.

Cheerio,

The blank space below your message appears only if the text of the message is relatively short. This is because each row has a certain minimum height in order to accommodate the member's name, title, avatar, etc.

For exchanging brief personal messages with another user of thebigview.com, you might want to use the PM tool, which stands for personal messenger, and see if it produces more satisfactory results. This is of course different from posting to the board, since it is addressed to a specific user. In contrast, anything posted to the board is addressed to the public in general.

Regarding the flashing screen and the electric noises you mention, I can assure you that these are not caused by the website. Flashing or flickering can be produced theoretically by quickly changing background colors programmed in JavaScript or Flash, however the software used by thebigview.com doesn't change background colors. As for the electrical noise, it is technically impossible for a website to produce this effect. If your screen continues to behave in that way, it is perhaps a good idea to check the monitor and cables.

Cheers, Thomas

Cheerio,
Dear Richie,

The color feature seems to work fine.

The font size feature also seems to work, although not with arbitrary point sizes.

Since color and font settings both work with tag codes, similar to HTML, you have to be careful about closing tags properly and not using them in complicated nested arrangements. Though invision board can understand nested tags, I am not sure to what level of complexity.

Regarding the subscription feature, I should mention that it currently works only for topics. Unfortunately it does not yet work with forums, which is due to the version number of the scripting engine on the server, as I have been told. This means Track this topic works, but Subscribe to this forum does not work.

Subscriptions have been greatly improved. Now you are notified only once a day of new replies, not once for every reply. You can unsubscribe and resubscribe to any topic at any time. If there was no new response to a particular topic for 60 days, the subscription expires automatically.

And yes, may you be RICH, Richie.

Cheers, Thomas

Observation: When one does not want her name displayed after registering, just check the little box, which asks you this question. By so doing, you can post your reply, and no one will ever know you are posting or from where, for your presence on the board, is only detected
by your name being Anonymous.

The VIEW MESSAGES option does not indicate what or where Anonymous is posting. However, once posted, it is easy to detect who is playing games.     Ha ha ha ho ho ho tee hee hee heelaireeeous.

hi, thomas,

i tried to click on the link to the old board from the News & Announcements thread, but i got this error:

Ikonboard CGI Error
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ikonboard has exited with the following error:

Can't open file (/your/path/to/discussion.old/Database/member_profiles/member_profiles.db) for reading. File exists

This error was reported at: Sources/iDatabase/Driver/DBM.pm line 124.

Please note that your 'real' paths have been removed to protect your information.

there were very good discussions on that board, and i want to refer back to them. will the old board be available to view forever?

btw, those eyes are pretty scary. :D

Uh oh, something must have gone wrong during the last server maintenance. I clearly remember that it worked before. I spent amost two hours trying to fix it, but unfortunately the old board seems beyond repair. Luckily I have a backup. Here is what I will do: I will import the old board data from the backup into an SQL database, write PHP script wrappers, and provide a link to display the archive on thebigview.com. This is going to take me a while, though.

Thanks for notifying me, sylph.

i did not have this problem with the old board.

Some pass their time,

by watching this Board,

Day and night,

Night and day,

They wait to see who makes a post,

And if they like who they see,

They will reply,

Not liking who replies,

They ignore.

One may think, I'm talking about me,

If I were talking about myself,

I 'd be Board Watching, like others do,

I'd be like others too,

Something that I can not do,

For I get Bored Watching what others do. :P <_<

i tried that, but to no avail. everytime i close my browser and open a new one to go to the main url of this board, it calls me a guest.

i'm not sure if this has to do with it, but my privacy settin on IE is 'medium':
-blocks third-party cookies that do not have compact privacy policy
-blocks third-party cookies that use personally identifiable information without your implicit consent
-restricts first-party cookies that use personally identifiable information without implicit consent

i wonder if anyone else is having this problem...

Thomas Knierim

Dear Sylph,

It definitely has something to do with cookies. thebigview.com uses cookies to identify users and to store session data. While it can also handle session data without cookies, it cannot recognize returning users without cookies, hence the login dialog.

What perplexes me is that the 'medium security' setting in Internet Explorer does not work in your browser. It works fine in my case. I am using 'medium security' in IE 6.0 and I am recognized by thebigview.com, amazon.com, and so on. Perhaps you use custom security settings?

Try this: select the Privacy tab in the Internet Options dialog and click on the Edit... button in the Web Sites group. Enter http://www.thebigview.com into the 'Address of Website text field and click the Allow button. Click OK. This overrides the standard settings for thebigview.com site.

Fear not, because your cookies are only used for completely ethical purposes, such as determining your political orientation, past delinquencies, sexual habits, annual household income, and mailing them to reputable direct marketing companies, honest operators of pornographical websites, and respectable secret service organizations of the world's top ten regimes.

Sort of. This particular blackout was caused by thebigview.com domain name hitting its expiration date without me being notified. So, it disappeared from the TLD DNS for two or three days. My apologies.

Okay, I have no idea where to post this, or if I should since it has to do with another forum.

E-Sangha, I was kicked off today, and haven't been able to get back on. I know other members here go back and forth between these two forums. So, is anyone else having problems??? This has been going on since this afternoon. It is 6:12 pm on Monday April 5th

Also, there are times when I log on here and after it accepts my info, it then goes back and calls me a guess. I have to put in all the info again. Why is that?
